Hockey Day in Kungalv, Sweden

This is a video clip from hockey day in Swedish town Kungalv. Kungalv is a small town in west Sweden, but some great players grew here - Daniel Alfredson and P. J. Axelsson. It's a great tradition over there and lot of fun for yougsters! Just take a look.

Pee Wee game in Swedish Kungalv

This game was captured also as a support for upcoming team testing. The testing is described more bellow already and we'll return to that later, right after it will be done.

It is possible use some particular player's sequences for:

- as a part of information for online evaluation (complete set of info includes test results, test video record, game performance)

- as a part of player online presentation

And of course, recorded game is good for coach's later game analyses.

Hockey Player's Evaluation - blue print

The following text is a blue print of "hockey player evaluation" project

Objective evaluation (OE) - MEASURABLE
______________________________________________

speed:

forward/backwards
- 30 feet sprint

- 6 x 30 feet (9 meters) with stops - acceleration
- 6 x 30 feet (9 meters) with turns - acceleration

crossover - forward/backwards - with/without puck
- left and right circle (regular face offs circle)

movability - forward/backwards - with/without puck
- 6 cones by 15 feet (4.5 m) at 100 feet (30 m) - agility
- "8" around 80 feet cones (25 m) - overall speed

endurance - anaerobic

6 x 100 feet with stops (30 m)

Shooting:

wrist
snap
slap
backhand

Shooting requires to be measured by laser speed measuring tools.

Notes: All above mentioned measurable skills testing is best implement into a regular practice unit into the skating section and shooting into simple shooting drill.

It is very efficient to do testing several time a season to have track of players progress.

To have a more information about player's current shape, the greatest way is to supplement those above mentioned results on ice with later off ice test of:
- total number of push-ups
- total number of squats (1000 max) or total number of one leg squats left/right (if you can do one leg squat then you start with it before push-ups)

Then upload or send to us your results (if possible with video records of best performances) and compare with other players within a same age group or your best with older players.

Best is to capture video records of testing performance for later analyses and farther advices for weaknesses improvement based on .... ->>>>>

subjective - HUMAN EVALUATION based on objective results

You can do your own subjective evaluation of course, however sometimes it is very efficient even interesting to have chance to compare and review somebody's else opinion. Especially of somebody with experience.

individual skills:
Based on video records of your particular hockey skill and OE you can get evaluation from any listed coach, scout or even professional player included with his advices and suggestions for your better improvement.

Game performance:
This evaluation is based on WWRS and OE, because on other way it is unpossible to give valuable advices and suggestions!!!!

The competition - key element for right development of hockey players

The competition, that's key element for development of players. To define what level you are talking about meaning competition, you must have some tool to have chance to compare particular hockey team or player.

There are generally two objective options and one subjective. Obviously the subjective option is based of some human evaluation. This is not very accurate at Pee Wee and Bantam level without at least one additional objective resource.

It is "a global hockey teams tiering" and/or "a physical testing database".

Hockey Camp at Skara, Sweden

This video clip was captured during a practice game at 3 days hockey camp at Swedish town Skara. At this clip are just first two lines, even there are several others very talented players.

KIK 94 team is great sample of "competition power" for right development of youth hockey players. Despite of fact, players are pretty much tired, because five hard practices within 48 hours, they try to compete each other hard enough to get their overall hockey performance and skills reach higher level.

Best hockey actions from PeeWee Hovas Cup

This clip was captured during U12 hockey tournament in Hovas, Sweden. There are some really good hockey actions performed by players from Kungalv U12 hockey team.

You can see here just best actions, however you can bet, that not everything was perfect and coach had a lot of video material to discuss with players.

Generally players are very interested in to see them-self and talk about possible solutions and options in that particular moment.

A slap shot sharpening

Take a look at those two Pee Wee players practicing their slap shot. There are many mistakes as well, as some good signs.

Where?

A good coach can "see it" and what more, he can explain, how to avoid mistakes and stick up with good parts of particular hockey skill.

Sydney Crosby "phenomenon"

Born in August 1987, he never played a second at NHL yet, but he's already hockey star. TSN.ca says:

Since the Great One and Super Mario began re-writing NHL records 20 years ago, hockey pundits and fans have been looking out for The Next One.
It's too early to tell if he will reach those great heights, but Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins certainly has the hype. The native of Cole Harbour, N.S. took the Rimouski Oceanic and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League by storm for two amazing seasons and was taken first overall by Pittsburgh at the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Scouts have compared his style of play to Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne.
But we've heard about phenoms like this before, right? We all remember can't-miss prospects like Mike Ricci, Eric Lindros, Alexandre Daigle and Jason Spezza, so how will Crosby fare? Is he the game's next superstar?

In my opinion Crosby is different from above mentioned players. He's "unpredictable" and he brings up the "beauty" of hockey. His hockey style is unlimited numbers of hockey variations.

He has already affected many youth players with his famous goal. Look at the attached video clip. While he's performing a quite difficult tricks, it looks easy and what old hockey truth says:....in simplicity is a beauty..

We'll see, how he will handle the "big" step from junior to top level professional hockey.

The highlights from Ronnang Hockey U12 Cup. Kungalv 94 team has dominated and won the tournament trophy.

This a sample shows, that everyone can captured video. Than coach can use it as feedback for players - to show them and discuss with them particular situations. Of course, it is a very nice record for every player in a team.

This clip is just a sample of practicing for-hand passing at 9 years old players level.

The clip was captured at Castle Ice, Renton WA - 2003; two squirts players - Ondra and Richard - performing.

The point is, that players, especially young ones, need to see them-self. It helps them to make correction in their self-reflection.
